FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is PTToC (or PoC)?

Push-to-talk over Cellular: the radio works like a classic one (press and talk), but the voice travels over the mobile network or Wi-Fi. That is why it has no range limit. You may also see it called PoC or RoIP (Radio over IP).

How is it different from conventional radios?

Conventional radios (VHF / UHF) reach as far as their signal does and often need repeaters and a frequency licence. PTToC radios reach as far as the mobile network or Wi-Fi does, and add GPS, messages, recording and a dispatch console.

Do I need a frequency licence?

No. No radio frequencies of your own are used, so there is no licence and no licence cost.

What SIM card is needed?

Any SIM card with data from the provider you prefer; voice uses very little data. We can also offer SIM cards that pick the network with the strongest signal by themselves. If the radios only work on Wi-Fi, no SIM card is needed.

What about places with no signal?

Mobile or Wi-Fi coverage is needed. For basements or remote spots we look at Wi-Fi solutions together.

Can I see where users are?

Yes. The radios have GPS and the console shows the position, route and speed of every user or vehicle on a map. Route history depends on the platform package you choose.

Can a mobile phone join the group?

Yes, with the PTToC smartphone app and a licence per user. Useful for managers who do not need a separate radio.

What does the SOS button do?

It sends an alarm to the whole team and shows at once on the dispatch console who pressed it and where they are.

Who sets up groups and users?

Groups, users and their rights are fully configurable. We set up the first ones; later changes are made by your administrator from the console or by us remotely.

What if a radio is lost or stolen?

The radio is locked or disabled remotely, so nobody can listen to or talk to your team.

What does it cost to run?

The radios are bought once. Running costs are a yearly platform licence per device and the SIM card data, unless only Wi-Fi is used. We give you a detailed quote based on the number of users.

Who is it for?

Hotels, security companies, transport and logistics, construction, industry, municipalities, field crews and events — wherever a team must talk instantly over long distances.
